Tracking Codes:

Building a website involves quite a bit of effort on your part although it is not a difficult project. Actually the building of the website is really quite easy but there a number of things that are often overlooked.

By unintentionally omitting some of the key items you may not receive all the traffic your subject could demand. I know, I found this out the hard way.

I didn't know about those important keys when I built my first site and expectations were smashed by some very low traffic.

After discovering and correcting the mistakes my traffic began to climb and along with it came a start to the monetary results I was working for.

The more attention you pay to your website and its functional parts the better the results. Working on the site a little each day will help you find those problem spots and it will be to your advantage.

Some of the things you should take care of are sitemaps and verification. Along with a few meta-tags.

Verification shows the search engines that you are the legal owner of the site. It also gives the engines permission to crawl the site for information.

A sitemap lets the search engines know just what your site contains and how many pages to look at. It also helps in reaching a desirable page rank.

The sitemap can also be of benefit to your readers. It helps the reader find a particular page or part they may have an interest in.

You also need to be sure to add meta-tags. Tags like a title tag, a description tag and a keyword tag.

The title seems to be an easy one to do but you should make it a little more meaningful. For example, if the page you are working on is about building guitars don't just use the word guitars for the title.

Give it some information for the search engine to use. Use something like "Guitars of quality and pride". That makes the search engines want to recommend it.

It is also wise to use some of those words when possible in the first paragraph or two of the page content. But overdo it. Only use the words once or twice, never more.

For your description tag use something like "learning what materials to use in building quality guitars to be proud of for years".

The search engines use the description to determine what the page is about and if it is relevant to the content.

And of course, the keyword tag. Be sure to add relevant keywords. Choose words that have a meaning to the content and don't be afraid to use phrases. In some cases the keyword phrase has more impact than just a word.

You can use a lot of keywords and phrases but don't just start throwing words in that don't really belong.

Another thing that a lot of people forget is a tracking code. You want to know what your page is doing and who is looking at it so use a tracking code.

If you are using google adsense or google adwords google has a good tracking system. They supply the code and all you need to do is copy it and paste it into the html of the page right at the bottom.

Once the code is in place google does the tracking and lets you see what is going on with the website. The same code will be used on every page in the site but a different code is needed if you have a second site.

Add the code before you publish the site or add a new page to it. I don't know how many times I have forgotten the code and had to go back later and add it.

Google offers many different tools designed to aid you in monetizing your website, put them to use.

The more you do for your site, the more the site does for you.
