Internet search engines

Lets talk a little about those search engines. There are many, many search engines. Some are more popular than others.

The most popular and most used are Google, Yahoo and MSN. These are the three biggies. Most of the surfing people use one or more of these three.

For your website to be seen and  to gain visitors you need to get noticed by the big three. Getting noticed by the big three is not an easy thing to do.

You can simply submit your website address to each one and sit back and wait for visitors but they still may take a year or more to find you. So what can you do to get better recognition?

You need to promote the site yourself. Let everybody you talk to know the address. This helps, but you don't know enough people for it to increase your site popularity.

You can include your site address as your signature in all your outgoing emails. But again, this is limited.

The search engines are the best bet for site recognition. The search engines want to see good, useful content. Something beneficial to the public.

They also want to see a lot of content. Not jus one or two pages. The more pages you have in your site the quicker the search engines will notice it.

You can start your site and publish it with just a few pages but keep adding pages to it. The engines like to see 50 or 100 pages.

After you get the site published search for other sites similar to yours. There are a lot of them with information similar to what you have to offer. Find them.

Look for sites that are relative to your own subject content. Sites that have something in common with yours.

After you find some, send an email and ask for a link exchange. Most site owners are willing to link with you because by linking with others the chance of the search engine picking up your site are greatly improved.

The more sites you can link to lets the search engines know that you are a serious business site and they can give you more exposure.

Be sure to submit your site to Google and start using the google adsense program.

And, of course, if you are using Google's programming Google will be quicker to help you with exposure.

Without the search engines your site will probably never receive visitors.
