The Internet is for Information
I found that the best alternative to selling my
product or someone else’s was to sell information on how others can produce
the product themselves. After all, the Internet is known as the “Information
Highway”.
I still enjoy
woodcarving and I still enjoy building and selling guitars but now I do it
on my own terms and in my own time.
Writing information on how to do a thing is a lot easier than actually doing
it. Everybody I know has some kind of information which they can share with
the entire world.
If you have been a plumber for years I’m sure you can tell other how to unclog a stopped up sink or install a disposal.
Write a
How-to-booklet and get it on the Internet. You may live in Idaho, but the
information you have may be needed and very important to someone in New
York, Hong Kong or even Hawaii.
Assess your
past and find all the things you have learned and figure out which you would
be interested in writing about. Once you start thinking about it with an
open mind you will be surprised at what you really do know a lot about.

I know one person who loved to ride his Harley-Davidson motorcycle. He would put 20 to 30 thousand miles on the bike each year. He met other riders on his many journeys and most of them asked where he had been, what he saw and what he did.
It was then that he thought of writing his Bikers page. He chose to write information on where he felt would be the most interesting places to travel by bike and where the camping spots could be located.
Where the most
convenient motels were located and what to expect and to look forward to on
a motorcycle trip. He carried his laptop computer with him and wrote from
each location. His audience became quite large and profitable. He now makes
a comfortable living from his motorcycle adventures.
If you have it in you head that you
can’t write, forget that idea. If you were writing a book to be published
hard bound then you would need to know how to dissect a sentence and you
would need to know the difference between a verb and a noun.
You would have
critics all over you about what you wrote and how you wrote it but most of
the people looking for information on the Internet don’t care what it looks
like, they just want to know.
I knew a man who made his living writing books. I mentioned that I always wanted to write a book but I knew I didn’t have the knowledge necessary for such an endeavor.
He taught me a valuable lesson that day. He simply said “You will never succeed unless you first try.” He told me to write what I thought, what I felt and to write it like I was standing right in front of you talking. Write like you talk.
What I wanted to write was something that would be of some kind of help to other people. I wrote an article on the subject of junk mail. That was at a time long before the Personal Computer.
My means of marketing was a small classified ad in the back pages of a national magazine. My first attempt to write produced a small income and a very surprised writer.
I only asked
$2.00 for my information of 6 or 7 pages. One buyer was so pleased with what
he received that he sent a second letter thanking me and included an
additional $3.00.
If you have a message for someone tell it so they understand it. Write like you talk everyday. The English language is difficult enough, don’t compound it with what you don’t understand and use.
You are not
trying to reach the collage crowd. Just throw in a little redneck English
now and then.. I’m sure the message will be received.

it?
Build a Web Site.
Now that you have something to sell it is time to
do something with it. It is now time to consider a web site. Time to put the
product on the market.
Never built a web site before? Well, it is intimidating, but not impossible. Think of a web site as a magazine. We have all at one time or another subscribed to a magazine.
We are all aware of how a magazine works. It has a cover, which is like a web site homepage. A magazine has a Table of contents, which is like a list of Hyperlinks.
And we have a
body of Pages, Which is like the pages of the magazine. On each page there
are stories or articles and some sponsors advertisements. The same is true
of a web page.
It contains the information you are promoting or the story you want told and the web page can and usually does contain some advertisements. The web site is actually just a magazine online. Nothing to be intimidated by.
