Keep it Clean:

It would be kind of tough to build a good website without a good computer. Keep it clean.

Have you taken a good look at your computer lately? I don't mean the pretty case or the fine lettering on the front. I mean have you looked at what is inside. The junk on the hard drive.

I was going through mine the other day looking for something I know I had downloaded and thought might work for a project I was working on. It seemed to take hours to find but I finally did and it did work.

But while I was looking I also found a ton of other junk that I had downloaded at one time or another and had forgotten about. Stuff that sounded interesting at the moment but was discovered while searching for something else.

I would download and store it for another day. Thinking I would look it over when I had more time on my hands. However, on some of those downloads the time has not come yet.

I found eBooks and programs and program landing pages plus several other things. I even found pictures that I thought might fit into a certain web page. It was stuff that I never used and no longer had any interest in.

I actually found this junk scattered all over the place. In my documents, in my family photos, even in my email folders. I even found things that dated back as far as 5 years ago. Yep, still there and still unused.

OK, my powers of organization are not so good. I did organize some, but not all. The point is, it was stuff that was wasting space on my machine. It was also making the machine run a little slower than usual.

You are probably somewhat like me and download something to read and study later. That is a good thing, but place it in a file created for just that purpose and don't forget to go back and read it. If you find that you are not really interested or the item wasn't what you thought it should be DELETE it.

If you keep it in a special file for the purpose you can keep it for months but eventually it should either be used or deleted. Don't clog up your machine like I did mine.

Take a stroll through the hard drive every once in a while. You will be surprised at what is in there. What is wasting space and making the performance so poor.

If you are not going to use it, Kick it out. It takes a lot of different bits and pieces to make your web page say what you want it to say and we store a lot of those pieces for the future but don't forget them.
